BTSC's new training concept means people can now train in about a third of the time colleges take as colleges typically spread their training over 2 to 4 years with only a day or two a week for just the 36 weeks of the academic year - and most colleges only provide the basic City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate training! Despite the length of these College courses and their scheduling making it virtually impossible for employed people to take time off work to train, demand far exceeds supply. This may well explain the acute shortage of plumbers in the UK.
The scheduling of training at BTSC is very different. Most of the training is in completely separate, intensive 5-day modules from 9am to between 5pm and 6pm Monday to Friday with some limited evening and Saturday availability.
Trainees simply book ahead for each module separately taking varying length breaks in between which suits most people's commitments and lifestyle. During these breaks trainees are advised to supplement their training and home study in their spare time by booking into the Centre's self-study classroom where a trainer is on hand to help and advise.
